Could You Recall Every Item You Own?Posted on: October 07, 2015
If your home were damaged or destroyed you would be expected to provide a list of all your personal property that was damaged, along with its estimated value. Preparing an inventory now can relieve some of the stress and make it easier to settle your claim.
- Take photos or record a video of the contents in each room, don't forget the closets and storage areas.
- Make a list of items with the make, model or serial number, date purchased, and the item's value. For more expensive items it is recommended that you keep your receipts.
- Safeguard your inventory. Store your inventory in a safe place - in a safe deposit box, with a relative, etc. If you provide us with photos and/or a list, we will be glad to add them to your personal insurance file.
- Review and update your inventory once a year or after a major purchase.
Compare your coverage. Compare how much it would cost you to replace all the items in your home to the limit of insurance on your policy. If the cost to replace is less than the limit of insurance, get in touch with us to adjust your coverage.
